Increasingly, it is helping us learn about student preparation for the
academic work across the curriculum.
Judy Dyer, a Lecturer in the English Language Institute, and Barbara Dobson, Director ofProfessional Partnerships for CaMLA (Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments), have delved into the interesting issue of "Generation 1.5." These are students who have studied in high school or earlier for years in the United States, but are not native English speakers. They may fall through the cracks as we try to identify students who would benefit from early attention to writing and communication ability.
